Quentin optimistic about return
MINNEAPOLIS - Is Carlos Quentin going to be able to play in the postseason?
Well, the White Sox have to get there first, and they still have two more games to play at the Metrodome.
Quentin should have a much better idea about his status after he has another exam on his fractured right wrist Friday.
Before Tuesday's game, Quentin stretched and worked the wrist with "very light" weights and was pleased with the progress.
"Things are going real well,'' said the Sox' left fielder. "Every day, it's getting better. The range of motion is coming now a lot easier. I still haven't gotten complete range back, but I'm looking forward to getting that sometime soon."
Quentin, who fractured the wrist three weeks ago in Cleveland, might be able to start taking batting practice before Friday's home game against the Indians. Would he be ready to go next week if the White Sox hang on and make the playoffs?
"Every day, I feel more optimistic about the healing process," said Quentin, who still leads the White Sox with 36 home runs and 100 RBI. "If you asked me three days ago how I felt about it, I wouldn't feel as positive. My main goal is to come back as fast as I can."
Back for more: After the Sox lost three of four to the Twins at the Metrodome in late July, general manager Kenny Williams said he was never coming back. Realizing the importance of this week's series, Williams changed his mind.
"I have to (be here)," Williams said. "I have to look in people's eyes. When you are in the heat of things, the look in your players' eyes will tell you a lot about what you have and what you need. Given my druthers, I would rather not be here."
Wise choice: Dewayne Wise got another start in left field Tuesday as manager Ozzie Guillen continued sitting the slumping Nick Swisher.
"That's the same lineup I've been making," Guillen said. "When (Ken Griffey) Junior's in the lineup, Wise is playing. I'm not taking Wise out of the lineup. I've got to see who's swinging the bat better, who's out there. Right now, Wise is going to be in the lineup until he can't be in the lineup anymore."
