Start 'pro-life' with babies already here
In response to Sandy Smith's letter (Sept. 19), it is not a woman's right:
We're all pro-life.
The U.S. ranks 23 out of the 23 richest countries in the world in infant mortality. This is a disgraceful statistic and one we should all hang our heads in shame over.
The premise of Roe vs. Wade is access to health care. All women should have this access.
Roe vs. Wade was decided primarily on the ninth amendment to the United States Constitution, a part of the Bill of Rights.
The court's decision in this case was that the ninth amendment, in stating that "the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people," protected a person's right to privacy.
When women feel safe enough to bring babies into this world, they'll stop having abortions. Until then, it is wrong to take away a woman's right to choose what actions she can take with her body.
We're all pro-life.
If the folks who are against abortion want to have an impact, might I suggest getting involved in saving the babies already born, who are dying in neonatal wards across the country.
If it's truly about life, there's plenty of need with those already living. Otherwise it's about control, and thank goodness for Roe vs. Wade.
