Help the community on Peanut Day

On Friday and Saturday, our orange-vested volunteers from Kiwanis clubs will once again be seen on street corners and in front of local businesses handing out packages of peanuts. All funds collected for Peanut Day go right back into the community, helping local children.

This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and also one of our most visible. Here are some things to consider when you see our volunteers.

Service organizations like The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn are the glue which hold the community together. Acts of open-hearted generosity by its members make our town a wonderful place to live. For more than 50 years, the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn has supported local children's causes, awarding scholarships to local students, delivering Christmas to needy families, collecting food for pantries, and various other ways too numerous to mention.

Volunteering with the Kiwanis will be the Aktion Club, a club for adult members with special needs and the energetic members of the local Key Clubs of Glenbard West and Glenbard South high schools, along with friends of family of Kiwanis members.

Behind the scenes of this fundraiser are some generous key indviduals and businesses who made this event possible. Business leaders in the community have shown their support by underwriting the cost of the peanuts that are distributed on Peanut Day. We are grateful to Busy Bee Barber Shop, Judith Getman Cheney, Robert G. Gibson Clifton Gunderson LLP, Community Bank of Wheaton/Glen Ellyn, Don's Auto Ade, Jerry Haggerty Chevrolet, Don Kirchenberg, Landscape Creations, Dave McGowan, Mail N Stuff, Stock Carlson Flynn McGrath LLC, Webster Hoff , and Wheaton Bank and Trust Company.

In addition, many Kiwanis club members have purchased the peanuts to be given away with their own funds. We also wish to thank the local stores such as Dominicks, Jewel/Osco, McChesney and Miller, Trader Joe's and WalMart, who have kindly allowed our volunteers to collect donations outside their doors.
