Lake County League hosts forum for county candidates, judges
Candidates for some countywide races and judgeships are scheduled to appear Sunday at a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Lake County.
The American Association of University Women of the Waukegan area and the Daily Herald are also co-sponsors of the 2 p.m. event at the Warren-Newport Public Library District, 224 N. O'Plaine Road, Gurnee.
Scheduled to appear are Lake County Circuit Court Clerk Sally D. Coffelt, a Republican, and her Democratic challenger Cynthia Pruim Haran; Lake County State's Attorney Michael J. Waller, a Republican, and Democratic challenger Michael D. Jacobs; and, Lake County Coroner Richard L. Keller, a Democrat, and Republican challenger Michael Oster.
The candidates will make opening statements, then answer questions from panelists and the audience followed by a closing statement.
Also, candidates for judge in two new subcircuits in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court will give three- to five-minute statements on why they think they are qualified for the position.
In Subcircuit 1 covering the Waukegan area, George Bridges, a Republican, is facing Democrat Jay W. Ukena. In Subcircuit 2, covering the Gurnee area, Democrat David S. Weinstein is facing Republican Valerie Ceckowski.
Candidates for county board seats are not part of the forum and the recorder of deeds spot is uncontested.
