Despite charges being dropped, man remains fearful

A Chicago man says he is living in fear after being arrested and charged in the murder of police officer and a social worker.

Jason Austin said he was at home asleep when eight police officers surrounded his bed with their guns drawn and arrested him.

Charges were eventually dropped against Austin in the murders of Robert Soto and his friend Kathryn Romberg.

Austin spent nearly a month in jail but was released after what prosecutors called "challenges with witness statements."

Austin said officers never beat him but refused to give him food and water for three days as they tried to question him.

Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique Bond on Monday said detectives conducted themselves in a professional manner throughout the investigation.
