Briefs: Teen dating workshop offered

A free forum titled "Teen Dating Violence: What Every Adult Should Know" will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Gurnee Community Church, 4555 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee. Participants will learn how to recognize unhealthy relationships and stop them before they start. Warning signs, tips for adults and community resources will be provided. Special education meeting

Libertyville Elementary District 70 will hold a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, to discuss plans for the provision of special education services to students with disabilities who attend private and home schools within district boundaries this school year. The meeting will take place at the district's educational resource center, 1381 W. Lake St., Libertyville. The meeting is open to administrators and teachers in private schools and parents of students in private and home schools. Local health study

The Illinois Department of Public Health, in cooperation with the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center, is conducting a health study of adults. As part of this study, interviewers from Northern Illinois University will be telephoning roughly 500 households in Lake County through the end of October. "This survey is one of several important tools to determine the health status of Lake County residents," said Irene Pierce, Lake County Health Department executive director. "The results can be very important to our planning process and will help us determine where resources will be directed."

Free concert Thursday

The Mundelein High School Marching Mustangs will perform a free, indoor concert on Thursday, Sept. 25. The show's set for 7 p.m. in the main gym. The theme of the concert is "Night at the Movies," and the band will play songs from popular franchises such as "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Indiana Jones" and "The Simpsons." The flag corps and the Mundelein High drum line will perform, too.

Man accused of vandalism

A man arrested on charges of vandalism in Arlington Heights is being looked at in connection with vandalism in Buffalo Grove, police said. Dmitry Lukashock, 28, of 1105 Miller Lane, Buffalo Grove, was arrested around 9 a.m. Sept. 15 and charged with attempted retail theft from Kohl's, 800 W. Dundee Road, Arlington Heights. He also was charged with criminal damage to property; police say he had punctured a tire and scratched the entire side of a Cadillac in the parking lot. He was turned over to the Buffalo Grove Police Department in connection with damage to 10 vehicles in a Buffalo Grove store parking lot. Buffalo Cmdr. Steve Husak said Monday that police have charged Lukashock with two counts of criminal damage to property for tires punctured at the Jewel store, 79 N. McHenry Road. He said police are also gathering more information on a series of tires that were slashed in the Mill Creek area on Sept. 11.
