Q&A with Ramey

1. Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what? What will be your main priority?

I am running to continue working for my district. I believe I have been very effective in the short time I have been in office.I have been able to cross the aisle and get my legislation passed.

2. For incumbents and non-incumbents. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are not an incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.

Jessica's Law, increased usage of DUI revenue for police agencies, tax reduction for people being double taxed for water, increased distance from schools and other areas where children are present from placement of adult entertainment facilities, computer donation from government agencies for low income children, increased vehicle abandonement penalties, requirement of state employee to properly destroy ID information, Rapid Repat legislation and annual town meeting quorum requirements.

3. Under what circumstances, if any, would you support raising the state income or sales tax? Please explain.

I do not support any tax increases

4. Do you support the expansion of gambling by adding slot machines at racetracks? Do you favor licensing and building new casinos? Please explain.

I can support the auction of the 10th license, a Chicago casino and slots at the tracks.

5. Would you support giving voters the ability to recall elected officials?

I was a sponsor of the resolution.

6. Did you support the suburban tax increases that were used to keep the public transportation trains and buses running without cuts or fare increases?

no

7. If you are elected, will you vote for the current party leader of your legislative chamber? Why or why not?

I believe I would support Tom Cross again. It would depend on how the election turns out and if we lose any more seats.

8. What do you think of the idea, widely circulated, of impeaching Gov. Blagojevich?

Without a charge against the Governor, I don't think impeachment proceedings would move forward. I was for recall so that the voters would have a chance to voice their opinions.
