Q&A with Osmond
1. Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what? What will be your main priority?
I have had the privilege of representatinv the citizens of the 61st District for the past 6 years. I would like to continue as the reprsentative as I feel that the need to hold the line on taxation on our businesses. We need to keep government out of our pockets, in allowing us to spend our own earning. We need to work to promote jobs in Illinois. My main concern next term will be to focus on the de-commissioning and/or reopening of the Zion Nuclear facility. We need to look to the future as to where we are going to have the supply of electricity needed in 2020 and 2030.
2. For incumbents and non-incumbents. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are not an incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.
I was able to put a law for the "Use of Credit Scoring" into law in Illinois in my first year. My late husband spearheaded this as he developed the national model and I carried the bill and it was signed into law in 2003. I co-sponsored the AED legislation which required an AED in at all sport facilities, which was signed into law. I recently filed a bill to remove the moratorium on building of Nuclear plants in the State of Illinois (HB2971) the bill started people talking about Nuclear energy and I secured 40 co-sponsors. Speaker Madigan is holding up the bill, but we need to focus in this direction for the future.
3. Under what circumstances, if any, would you support raising the state income or sales tax? Please explain.
None
4. Do you support the expansion of gambling by adding slot machines at racetracks? Do you favor licensing and building new casinos? Please explain.
I do not have a problem with adding slots at racetracks, as they are already a form of gaming. I do not support any further of expansion of gaming as I have been openly working against a casino in Kenosha for the past three years, as my district will get all the problems from the casino and no help.
5. Would you support giving voters the ability to recall elected officials?
Yes, I already have voted in favor of recall.
6. Did you support the suburban tax increases that were used to keep the public transportation trains and buses running without cuts or fare increases?
No
7. If you are elected, will you vote for the current party leader of your legislative chamber? Why or why not?
Yes, Leader Cross is a true leader in Springfield. Leader Cross puts Illinois citizens first.
8. What do you think of the idea, widely circulated, of impeaching Gov. Blagojevich?
I would support impeachment.
