Q&A with Heneghan

1. Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is that? What will be your main priority in office?

I am running to serve the people of the 48th district. As a heart patient, I am interested in health issues. I am also interested in education and technology issues.

2. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are not an incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.

As a Telecom engineer I could serve on multiple subcomittees, I have 911 implementation experience. I would also try to improve information flow at the state level and between state and constituents. Education issues are also important to me.

3. Under what circumstances, if any, would you support raising the state income or sales tax? Please explain.

If all other revenue alternatives were exhausted, and no expense cuts were possible, and funding was a requirement, I would support a very small tax increase .

4. Do you support the expansion of gambling by adding slot machines at racetracks? Do you favor licensing and building new casinos? Please explain.

I support the addition of slot machines to provide equal footing in the gambling industry. Licensing would be done by the state, building would be done by the site owner.

5. Would you support giving voters the ability to recall elected officials?

I would not. The current election process is sufficient. The proposed recall method would incur resources, time, and expense.

6. Did you support the suburban tax increases that were used to keep the public transportation trains and buses running without cuts or fare increases?

I wasn't an elected official, but I would have sought some funding and small fare increases.

7. If you are elected, will you vote for the current party leader of your legislative chamber? Why or why not?

I would vote to support my party, in most cases.

8. What do you think of the idea, widely circulated, of impeaching Gov. Blagojevich?

I think the voters should decide his fate in the next election.
