Q&A with Bless
1. Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what? What will be your main priority?
I am seeking the office of McHenry County Board member in order to make a difference. I will dedicate my time and effort in addressing issues important to the community. My initial focus will be on issues such as groundwater, traffic congestion, transportation, economic development, revenue and spending, government accountability and land use. As a resident of McHenry County and a father of six, I have faced the same concerns as my neighbors. I've sat in traffic on Route 14 and wondered why the lights weren't timed more efficiently. Many times I have speculated on the feasibility of various forms of public transportation for residents who don't drive or own cars. Of course, like most people, I have also questioned the government's spending of my hard-earned tax dollars.
2. For incumbents and non-incumbents. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are not an incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.
My motivation for seeking this office is similar to the reason I became a police officer, I want to be out on the street helping people. My years as a public servant have given me knowledge, experience and understanding. As an attorney, I have the benefit of legal experience and as an accountant. I am able to comprehend the financial aspects of this office. These are the traits I will use to serve the citizens of McHenry County. As a member of the McHenry County Board, I will carefully review all matters before the board. I will always use my experience, education and keep the best interests of my constituents in mind when voting on issues impacting the people, neighborhoods and communities of McHenry County.
3. The county has taken a leadership role in studying the issue of long-term water supply maintenance and protection. What should the county's emphasis be in this area over the next few years? Explain.
The county's emphasis should be on research, development, and continued progress toward water conservation.
4. Transportation issues continue to be a major concern to residents. How would you judge the county's response to their demands so far? What would you consider to be of highest county priority in this area and how would you fund its delivery?
Past planning growth wasn't adequate - we need to consider potential growth and plan to stay ahead of it. Federal and state funding could be used to participate in the alleviation of traffic congestion for the planned growth of McHenry County. We need to anticipate McHenry County as a continuously growing community.
5. Not including those issues already identified above, is there another issue you believe will affect the county or your district over the next four years? If so, define it and explain how you would like to see it addressed.
I believe the downturn in the economy will affect the county. Taking this into consideration, we need to explore solutions and strategically plan to increase economic development and growth throughout McHenry County. In a down economy, we don't have new businesses opening, current businesses expanding or sales increasing. We need to bring businesses out here to increase local jobs and sales tax revenue.
6. Please list the names of all relatives employed by or involved in contracts with McHenry County, their relationship to you and their position or area of business.
None.
