Cops: Teen's shotgun death an accident

Chicago police say the shotgun death of a 16-year-old South Side boy appears to have been accidental and the product of foolish play.

Officers said early Monday that the boy's 16-year-old companion has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. His name was not released because he was charged as a juvenile.

Authorities say 16-year-old Arthur Tyler and two companions were playing with the shotgun early Sunday morning in the city's West Englewood neighborhood when it discharged, striking Tyler in the neck.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says Tyler was dead on the scene.

According to the boy who was charged and his friend, the three were smoking marijuana before the shooting.
