Singer Anne Hills at St. Charles celebration
Singer Anne Hills will be featured at the second annual Autumn's Musical Celebration on Friday, Sept. 26 in the Kavanagh Gallery at The Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 6N158 Crane Road, west of Randall Road in St. Charles.
Tickets are $25 per person. Seating is limited and you can buy tickets on line at www.fineline.org or purchase them in the shop at The Fine Line Creative Arts Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will start at 6 p.m.
They will have a light supper of soups, salads, and tempting desserts followed with acoustic music as Hills' pure, rich voice shares its songs and stories. She plays guitar and banjo, and even whistles a bit of a tune now and then.
Hills is a singer/song writer, poet and actress. She has received numerous honors; including the 2005 and 2006 Pennsylvania Partner's in the Arts Project Stream grant awards. She was the recipient of the WFMA 2002 Kate Wolf Memorial Award and The Kerrville Music Foundation's Outstanding Female Vocalist of the Year Award in 1997. Her duet children's recording with Cindy Mangsen, "Never Grow Up," was chosen for the coveted Parents' Choice Award. Her poetic work won her second place in the Atlanta Review's 1999 International Poetry Contest. She and Tom Paxton released a duet recording, "Under American Skies," which won a WAMMIE for best traditional folk recording. Hills was born in Moradabad, India, the daughter of educational missionaries. Raised in Michigan, she attended Interlochen Arts Academy. She moved to Chicago's folk scene in 1976 and cofounded the folklore center Hogeye Music, still a force in the Chicago music scene. Her commitment to social justice (receiving a master's degree in social work with honors on Mother's Day of 2005) and her tender caring toward children keep her busy with benefit concerts and community service projects. She did such a concert for the Hadley School for the Blind this spring. She now lives in Bethlehem, Penn., with her husband and their daughter.
