Dundee-Crown notches third straight win

So much for the kiss of death.

Maybe it's luck. Maybe it's just good football. But no doubt about it, Dundee-Crown is running on all cylinders, making waves on both sides of the ball and improving its record to 3-1, after a 28-12 win over Grayslake Central in a Fox Valley Conference crossover match up at the D-C Bowl Friday night.

For the first time since 2000, the Chargers have a three-game winning streak, thanks in part to the offense, which got off to a quick start with 2 touchdowns in the first quarter to lead 14-0.

"This was our best offensive game we had all year. Hopefully we can keep going and keep getting better," Chargers coach Mike Davis said.

Grayslake Central (0-4) had problems on defense from the first D-C drive of the game. Ian Salvatini rushed for 50 yards on the drive alone, slicing and dicing his way through the Rams' defense. Savaltini rushed for 142 yards for the game, including a touchdown in the third quarter, but it would be Logan Kissack's 19-yard touchdown throw to Jeff Beck that got the party started for D-C with 6:33 left in the first quarter.

Kissack would hit Justin Strzelczyk on a 38-yard pass at the very end of the quarter, giving D-C (3-1) a two touchdown lead going into the second quarter.

"Our offense really hasn't clicked at all and we needed to come out and score right away," said Beck, who hauled in another touchdown in the third quarter.

The Rams' defense couldn't hold up to that point, after Beck's second touchdown, allowing 253 total yards once Beck put the Chargers ahead by 21.

Grayslake had many scoring opportunities in the first half, including getting as close as the Charger 17 on the first drive of the game, the Charger 7 in the second and Charger 11, but couldn't get past a Charger defense which has given up only 26 points in 3 games.

"The defense stopped them once and again at the end of the half. You can see our guys at the end, they were tired," Davis said.

A tired defense gave up 12 points in the last 5 minutes of play, when Mike Gentile ran it for a yard and when Kevin O' Rourke ran it in from the 8-yard line, but it held long enough, allowing 263 yards of total offense.

"It feels pretty good. we're having fun. It feels good," said Beck.

Kissack threw for 172 yards, 3 touchdowns and completed 9 of his 11 passes. His final throw, a 26-yard pass to Beck, put D-C up 28-0.
