Police name man arrested with gun near Dundee-Crown

Carpentersville police arrested an 18-year-old student in a car across from Dundee-Crown High School Tuesday afternoon who they say had a loaded .25- caliber handgun in his waistband.

Christopher R. Breceda, of 1143 Denver Drive, Carpentersville, was charged with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of aggravated resisting a police officer, police said.

Due to increased gang activity, extra police patrols were assigned to the Dundee-Crown High School area.

One officer spotted Breceda, who is a Dundee-Crown student, in a car across from the high school at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday. He was wearing the colors of a street gang, a report said.

When Breceda got out of the car, he began to back away from the police officer and then struggled with him before the gun was confiscated, police said. The officer suffered a cut on his right knee.

The other occupant of the car was released, police said.

According to police, Breceda told them he brought the loaded gun and a pair of gloves, just in case he got shot at.

"The gangs are trying to flex their muscles and mark their territories, and so are the police," Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said. "We've taken down so many high ranking gang members lately, some of the younger ones are now trying to make their mark."

Kane County Judge Kevin Busch asked Breceda at his bond hearing Wednesday if he had ever been arrested before.

"I think drugs," he replied.

Breceda's bond was set at $5,000 with a Sept. 26 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
