Worker inhales fumes
Grayslake fire officials responded to a small hazardous materials spill off Rollins Road in unincorporated Lake County at about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. Grayslake Fire Department Deputy Chief Greg Formica said a well drilling company was using acid to clean out a well at 20270 Rollins Road when the acid had a reaction with water and some chlorine used on the pipes the day before. The mixture caused a small chemical reaction and cloud in the pipe that was inhaled by an employee of the well drilling company. Formica said the employee became dizzy and nearly passed out, which prompted a call to the fire department. Fire officials checked out the victim at the scene and released him. Also, firefighters washed the area down with water to ensure the area was safe.
