Art show, market to anchor weekend in Hanover Park
Two corners in Hanover Park will be hopping this Saturday and Sunday.
Maxwell Street West, the village's semiannual community garage sale and flea market, gets going Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Street and Barrington Road in the commuter lot.
"Maxwell Street provides a great opportunity for people to find unique items at a bargain while enjoying some outdoor shopping in one location," said Sue Krauser, of the Hanover Park manager's office.
Along with residents from Hanover Park, many other communities participate in the popular event. The giant sale draws from Streamwood, Itasca, Bartlett, Elgin, Carol Stream, and other locations.
"The advantage of being a vendor at Maxwell Street is that because of the high-traffic location and many vendors there, it draws a big crowd and provides the opportunity to make some extra money while getting rid of those unwanted items in their homes that take up space," Krauser said.
From the sensible to the senseless, folks can elbow their way to treasures. About 142 parking spaces will be full of items that include clothing, house wares, jewelry, collectibles and tools. There will also be craft items such as Christmas goodies and candles. Companies represented include Avon and Spa on the Go.
The rain or shine event, which takes place every year on the third Saturday in May and third Saturday in September, is free and open to the public.
On the same weekend, at Ontarioville Road in Jubilee Park, the village and the Ontarioville Art and Music League presents its second annual Fine Art Fair Sunday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"We planned it for the same weekend as the flea market because last year the weather was nice, so we figure the village has an in on the weather," said Anita Komorski, director of the Ontarioville Art and Music League. "It keeps our corners busy for the weekend."
Almost as versed as the flea market, the show will run the gambit of oils, acrylics, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, beading, and photography. About 37 local artists will be featured.
"There will be wonderful oil paintings by Mort Luby from Carpentersville," Komorski said. "Local barn painter from Hanover Park, Mark Sauck, does exciting barn paintings in watercolors and oils. And last year's Best in Show winner, bead weaver Wanda Pitzele from Hanover Park, will return."
Entertainment includes the jazzy We II, Hanover Park Park District Dance Troupe, and guest sax and guitar players stopping by. The day's wine tastings may be accompanied by food ranging from chicken to kettle corn.
