Thanks for stepping up to the plate, Itasca

During the past weekend's flooding, Itasca stepped up to the plate and helped out unlike I have ever seen before. My street was flooded and the water overflowed from the pond behind our houses, slithered over the course of only a few hours to within feet of our back door. By 2 p.m. Mayor Gruber and her daughter Tara, were walking our street asking who needed help and where. Within minutes volunteers in their trucks and dozens of young people were pulling up unloading and delivering sand bags to all who needed them. Unfortunately, for many on our block it was already too late, but I cannot tell you how grateful we were to have such help. We have lived here for 22 years and that is a short time compared to many living here 40-plus years. I can tell you this: everyone agreed that the way the village public works department, the mayor and all of the wonderful young volunteers who came together to help us out that day, will be remembered for many years to come. Thank you, Itasca.
