Motorcyclist killed in Aurora accident

A motorcyclist was killed late Tuesday after slamming into a car that police said turned left in front of him in Aurora.

Thomas Dodson, 36, of Oswego, was eastbound on his 2008 Harley-Davidson on Indian Trail Road just before 7 p.m. when a driver heading west made a left turn in front of him.

Police said the other driver, Jill J. Womack, 22, of Aurora, was turning her 1999 Chevy Malibu into the southbound lane of Highland Drive when she cut off Dodson.

Witnesses told police that Dodson attempted to avoid the crash by "dumping" his motorcycle on the ground, however, he slid into the passenger side of the car at a high rate of speed. Police said Dodson was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at Provena Mercy Medical Center at 7:11 p.m. Tuesday.

Dotson, who was married without children, grew up in Aurora but moved to Oswego several years ago. His family declined to comment Wednesday.

Police cited Womack for failure to yield when turning left. The preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Authorities said Womack's vision may have been hampered by the sun.
