12-year-old arrested on drug charges

GALESBURG -- Authorities in Galesburg have arrested a 12-year-old on charges that accuse him of trying to distribute marijuana on school property.

Police say the boy was trying to sell the drug to his classmates at Churchill Junior High School. The other students told a teacher.

According to a police report, the student was called to the principal's office where he emptied his pockets for school administrators; they found several bags of a green leafy substance and a lighter.

Authorities say the substance tested positive for cannabis. The boy is facing preliminary charges of delivery of cannabis on school property and cannabis possession.
