Man holding 5 hostages surrenders to police

SPRINGFIELD -- A police standoff has ended peacefully in Springfield after a man allegedly holding several relatives hostage surrendered to authorities.

The suspect reportedly was holding five people hostage at gunpoint in his home, including children who may have been related to him.

Police say the hostages all escaped through a back window of the home within minutes after police arrived on the scene. The suspect turned himself in to police minutes later.

Police have not released the names of anyone involved in the standoff, and there are no reports of criminal charges.
