Stone moving over to Sox' TV booth in 2009

After 20 years broadcasting on the North Side, it looks like White Sox baseball analyst Steve Stone is on his way to a similar tenure on the South Side.

Stone on Saturday signed a six-year deal through 2014, with a club option for 2015, to take over color-analyst duties for Sox television broadcasts starting next year.

"I know there's a lot of players who have played on both sides of town, but I do believe I'm the only broadcaster who has done radio on both sides of town and television on both sides of town," he said. "The fans of Chicago on both sides of town have treated me so well over the years. It didn't matter who I was working with or who I was playing with, the fans have always been terrific.

"I found that coming over here, you never really know how you're going to be accepted, especially after broadcasting for so many years on the other side, but the Sox fans have been terrific.

"The Cubs fans have been terrific. It just reinforced my idea of how much I care for this city."

Current television analyst Darrin Jackson has been offered the analyst role on the team's radio broadcasts in 2009, and the Sox are "awaiting a decision from Jackson."

Not yet: Despite all the rainouts and delays, the return of first baseman Paul Konerko (right knee) to the lineup hasn't been moved up.

"PK's still day by day," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He's not ready. He's moving around better. Hopefully he can play for the series in New York (beginning Monday)."

He said it: Guillen on the never-ending rain: "By the time we play the next game, maybe the starting pitcher will be Jose (Contreras)."
