Vazquez ready to pitch today on three days' rest

With Friday's rainout, the White Sox could have pushed scheduled starting pitcher John Danks back to today's game against the Tigers.

Instead, they've apparently decided to use the young left-hander Sunday night against Detroit.

Danks gets some extra rest, but veteran right-hander Javier Vazquez is still slated to pitch Game 1 against Detroit today on three days' rest.

"I can't say I prefer it because we don't do it anymore," said Vazquez, who started Game 1 of a doubleheader against Toronto on Tuesday. "Back in the day, you could say everyone was going every four days. I feel 100 percent on the fourth day. Even when I long toss on the fourth day, I feel great. So I'm going to be fine."

Danks threw roughly 30 pitches in the bullpen Friday before the game was called, so he did get some work in.

"Today was like a normal side day," Danks said. "I felt good. I want to pitch every five days, but you take the extra days whenever you can get them."

If the weather cooperates the next two days - hardly a sure thing - Danks pitches against Detroit on Sunday with Lance Broadway likely taking the mound in Game 2 today.

Role playing: Scott Linebrink has made only 2 relief appearances since coming off the disabled list, pitching 2 scoreless innings.

Manager Ozzie Guillen said the time is right to move Linebrink back to the setup role, which he capably filled before being sidelined for six weeks with a sore shoulder.

"I think I'm going to give Linebrink a shot and roll the dice," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We're going to try to set it up the way we did earlier, the seventh inning between (Octavio) Dotel and (Matt) Thornton, eighth Linebrink, ninth Bobby Jenks. I have nothing to lose. Everybody I put in the eighth has been getting hit, so why not put the guy that should be there?"

Konerko update: Paul Konerko is expected to take batting practice today.

Konerko had to come out of Wednesday night's game against the Blue Jays with a mild sprain of the MCL in his right knee.

The Sox should have a better idea on Konerko's playing status by Monday.
