Milwaukee possible for Cubs-Astros series
Is Miller Park back into play for the Cubs-Astros series?
MLB.com Milwaukee reported Friday night that Major League Baseball is reconsidering using the home of the Brewers to host the Cubs and Astros, whose series in Houston has been postponed by Hurricane Ike.
Citing Brewers sources, MLB.com wrote that the Cubs and Brewers could play Sunday and Monday in Milwaukee. A three-game series had been scheduled this weekend for Houston, but the fierce storm already wiped out the Friday and Saturday games, and the prospects for Sunday look increasingly doubtful.
Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said Friday night that he had been spoken with Commissioner Bud Selig, but that Miller Park was not seriously discussed.
If the Astros can get out of Houston, the move would make sense because Miller Park has a retractable roof, just as Minute Main Park in Houston does. The Astros could be the "home" team in Milwaukee and benefit from a substantial gate, even if most of the fans came from Chicago.
A Cubs spokesman said he also was unaware of the Miller Park plan.
