Batavia Park District notes

The Batavia Park District offers a variety of programs and activities. To register, call the office at (630) 879-5235, visit the Web site at www.bataviaparks.org or stop by the main administrative office at 327 W. Wilson St., Batavia.

Co-Rec Volleyball League: Adults, 18 and older, can enjoy fast-paced co-rec volleyball action. Put your team together for fun and exercise on Thursdays starting Oct. 2 through Jan. 22. Games will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the gymnasium of Louise White School, 800 N. Prairie St. The league fee is $380 per team.

Men's Fall Softball League: Put a team of men, age 18 and older, together for this fast-paced 12-inch softball league. Choose between a competitive league on Mondays and Wednesdays or a recreational league on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each team will play up to an 18-game schedule plus a tournament at the end of the season. Games will be played from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Memorial Park. The league fee is $700 per team.

Batavia Senior Citizens Club: New members are always welcome at the Batavia Senior Citizens Club. This active group of seniors meets monthly at Shannon Hall, 14 N. Van Buren. This month's meeting will be held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 17. Grab your denim, bandanna and 10-gallon hat and enjoy a lunch of brats, baked beans, coleslaw and chips. After lunch, get a chance to meet some other members and join in on a line dance. The cost is $3 for members and $8 for nonmembers before Saturday, Sept. 13. Mom & Son Night of Fun: Moms and sons can share some quality time together and have a blast at the "Mom & Son Night of Fun" from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 at Shannon Hall, 14 N. Van Buren St. This year features a sports theme. Moms and sons, age 4 to 10, should be prepared to work as a team to compete in games and activities. Participants will enjoy a catered meal, games, a picture and prizes. The fee per person is $12 for residents, $14 for Batavia nonresidents and $16 for nonresidents.

Auto Detailing: Gary Kouba, former owner of Perfect Auto Finish and past director for the professional car wash and detailers association, shares secrets to keeping your car like new. All aspects of exterior and interior care are covered. The class will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Shannon Hall, 14 N. Van Buren St. The cost is $15 for residents, $17 for Batavia nonresidents and $20 for nonresidents. Ages 16 and older are welcome.

Apple Picking: Enjoy a day of apple picking at Kuiper's from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. Take a hay ride through the orchard to pick some apples, then enjoy lunch on your own at the Apple Wood Grill. Be sure to stop by Kuiper's store before you leave for fresh cider doughnuts, apple cider, caramel apples, fudge, pies and more. Pumpkins will also be available. Trip includes transportation and apple picking. The cost is $19. Register by Monday, Sept. 22.

Nonresidency: Deadlines are usually one week before the event. The park district reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine classes, and change instructors. Nonresident fees are divided into two categories: A Batavia nonresident is a city of Batavia resident but not a resident within the Batavia Park District boundaries; a nonresident is a person residing outside of the city of Batavia and also outside the Batavia Park District boundaries.
