Elgin
•Timothy B. Newcombe, 40, of 3512 W. Flournoy St., Chicago, was arrested on a drug charge Tuesday during a traffic stop in which police said they found marijuana under his seat. Police stopped a gold Dodge Intrepid in which Newcombe was riding near Locust and State streets at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for a minor traffic violation. When the car was searched, a plastic bag containing 33 grams of suspected marijuana was located under the rear passenger seat, police said. Newcombe, police said, admitted the bag belonged to him and was charged with possession of marijuana. He was unable to post a $1,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 18 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
• The Providence Boat House on the 3000 block of Gansett Parkway was vandalized between 2 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Two screens were cut and the windows were pushed open, paint was splattered on the tile floor inside the boathouse, tableware was damaged and furniture was scattered and broken, according to reports. Items that were broken or damaged included the window screens, a fire extinguisher, a wooden bench, 20 stone floor tiles, a tan carpet, a cloth couch, coffee cups, drywall and wall hangings valued in excess of $4,000. It was estimated that the cleanup of the white paint splattered on the tile floors will cost $2,000 to $3000.
• A 27-inch television valued at $500 was stolen from an apartment on the 800 block of Bode Road between 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said they could find no sign of a forced entry into the apartment.
South Elgin
• Three trucks and a trailer on the 700 and 900 blocks of Fulton Street were burglarized over the weekend. A DVD player, sunglasses, a radar detector, a cell phone, cash, a camera and a space heater worth a total of $795 were stolen from the vehicles. Police said the owners had left the vehicles unlocked.
West Dundee
Charlene S. Ruiz, 20, of 899 Carl Ave., Elgin, was arrested Tuesday on a felony retail theft charge alleging she stole $321.37 in merchandise from the Sears store at Spring Hill Mall, police said. The arrest came after a store security officer spotted a woman at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday place numerous items of clothing and costume jewelry in a handbag then leave without paying. Ruiz was arrested in the mall area and later posted a $300 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 17.
