Library hosts Johnny Appleseed program
The Dundee Township Public Library Children's Department will welcome the coming of the fall season with two entertaining and informative programs. With the abundance of the apple harvest during the fall months, the library is hosting a special "Johnny Appleseed" program at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.
John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, is believed to have been born at Leominster, Mass., on Sept. 26, 1774. He became famous for introducing the apple to large parts of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois and dedicated most of his life to planting apple orchards wherever he went. He was regarded as a great medicine man by the Indians, and died in 1845 at the age of 71.
Children, ages 4 and older, must participate with a parent or caregiver and together will enjoy making a craft, playing games, listening to stories and having refreshments.
To register your child for this free program, either come to the Dundee Township Public Library children's department, 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee or call the library at (847) 428-3661, ext. 310 or go to www.dundeelibrary.info for online registration.
