Women's health providers to converge at Yorktown

Women can get answers to a variety of health-related questions at the DuPage Women's Fair, which is being held Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Lombard.

Area health care providers, including Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Central DuPage Hospital, Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare and Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, are collaborating with state Reps. Sandy Pihos and Patti Bellock and the American Cancer Society for the free event.

"It's promoting a healthy lifestyle for women," said Yvonne Kolling, legislative director for Bellock. "It's pretty diversified. It's all very interactive. They are not just going to be giving out information."

More than 80 informational and interactive exhibits will be set up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout Yorktown Center, Butterfield Road and Highland Avenue.

They will include body fat analysis, driver's license and state ID renewals, free health assessments, blood pressure and diabetes screenings, massages, nutrition information and cancer prevention tips, glaucoma screenings, long-term health insurance, food demonstrations and samples.

Poised for Success, an area not-for-profit that helps women enter the workforce, will offer tips on makeup, hair and business attire, Kolling said.

"They're trying to get the word out about the organization," Kolling said.

Around the Town Entertainment, which provides painters and caricature artists for events, will be on hand to display their talents.

Featured speakers will discuss various topics throughout the day, starting at 10 a.m.

They include: NBC's Andrea Metcalf talking about Fitter at 40 than You Were at 20! Exercise and Foods to Combat the Flashes; pharmacist Robert Listecki, Hormonal and Synbiotic Therapy; Sheri Billing, Demystifying Hearing Loss; Dr. Ronald H. Stefani Jr., Plastic Surgery: Where to Start and What to Look For; Evie Caprel, Balancing Your Chakras for Health and Vitality; NBC's Sandy Goldberg, Nutrition & Your Busy Lifestyle; Dr. Robert Lawton, Medical, Non-Surgical Cellulite Reduction; and Dr. Ahmed Elborno of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, Low Back Pain.

Drawings will be held every half-hour and feature items donated by exhibitors and Yorktown businesses, Kolling said.
