Gurnee drivers cry over spilled milk truck

A semitrailer loaded with milk overturned in Gurnee early Wednesday, blocking a busy roadway and spilling its load onto the pavement, police said.

The accident happened about 5:15 a.m. on Grand Avenue at the Tri-State Tollway. The truck driver was exiting the tollway onto westbound Grand Avenue when the trailer broke free and flipped, Gurnee police Cmdr. Jay Patrick said.

The driver was going too fast for the ramp, Patrick said.

No other vehicles were involved and no one was hurt. The truck cab remained upright, police said.

The truck driver, who police said had been headed to a local Jewel Food Store, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was identified as Guillermo Garcia, 34, of Milwaukee.

The truck belonged to Foremost Farms USA Cooperative of Baraboo, Wis.

Some lanes of Grand Avenue remained blocked until about 8:30 a.m. The trailer was removed shortly before 10 a.m.
