Briefs: Historic house tour
Eight homes in Elgin's Gold Coast neighborhood will be featured Saturday, Sept. 13, at the 27th annual Historic Elgin House Tour. Organized by the Gifford Park Association, the tour runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour ($10 for children 12 and younger and seniors). Advance tickets are available at Al's Cafe and Creamery, 43 DuPage Court; Jewel grocery stores at 1660 Larkin Ave. and 1040 Summit Drive; and Ziegler's Ace Hardware, 215 N. Learn about District 300
Community Unit District 300 is hosting a back-to-school luncheon and information session at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11. The event will be held in the Dundee Township Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville. Torres to hold open sessions for U-46 parents, taxpayers
New U-46 Superintendent José Torres will hold daytime and evening open sessions to meet with U-46 community members. Every other month, Torres will hold a noontime "brown bag lunch" for community members from noon to 1 p.m. at district headquarters, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The evening sessions, also every other month, will take place at 6 p.m. at the Elgin High School Library, preceding the monthly Citizens' Advisory Council meeting. Dates for brown bag lunch sessions will be Oct. 16, Dec. 11, Feb. 12 and April 16. Evening sessions include Sept. 11, Nov. 13, Jan. 15, March 12 and May 7.
Crackdown on drivers
Algonquin police, with the McHenry County Sheriff's Department made eight DUI arrests and 26 other arrests during a recent crackdown on impaired drivers that lasted from Aug. 15 through Sept. 1. On Labor Day weekend, there were 12 citations for driving without a valid license, six arrests for driving with a suspended license, one arrest for DUI and one other person was picked up on a warrant.
