Woman dead, man injured in stabbing

CARTERVILLE -- A woman is dead and a man hospitalized after an early morning stabbing in southern Illinois.

Williamson County Sheriff Tom Cundiff says deputies responding to a 911 call found a 26-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds at an apartment. She later died at a hospital.

Deputies also found a 51-year-old man in the victim's apartment with what authorities describe as self-inflicted stab wounds. He's being treated at a hospital, but his condition isn't available.

Authorities aren't releasing their names or any details about the incident, which is being investigated by the Williamson County sheriff's department, the county coroner and Illinois State Police.
