Lawsuit alleges abuse at Greek Orthodox Church

A former altar boy in a Chicago-area Greek Orthodox Church contends a priest sexually abused him in the 1970s and church officials covered it up.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday claims a man identified in court papers as "John Doe 124" was abused as a teen by Reverend Nicholas E. Katinas.

Katinas worked at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Olympia Fields from 1969 to 1978. He was then a priest for almost three decades at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas before his 2006 suspension.

The lawsuit claims church officials "observed at least four suspicious incidents suggestive of pedophilia."

Messages have been left seeking comment from Katinas. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America didn't immediately offer comment.

Katinas faces a similar lawsuit in Texas.
