Buffalo Grove takes a closer look at Lake-Cook Road

Buffalo Grove will be participating with the Cook County Highway Department on a project that looks at congestion on Lake-Cook Road.

The village had already been working with Civiltech Engineering and Lake County to study Weiland Road from Lake-Cook Road to Route 22, and the county department wanted to also study other intersections on Lake-Cook.

"The county's intent ... is to look at the capacity on Lake-Cook Road," said village manager Bill Brimm. "The road is really over capacity."

The study would include the intersections of Lake-Cook at Weiland, Route 83 and Buffalo Grove Road.

The village would be putting up no cost for the study.

The Cook County Highway department has also met with the village of Wheeling about extending Weiland Road to Buffalo Grove Road to fix a bottleneck in that area.

The phase-one study would take about two years and include public input. After that point, the county will look for funding to see if any construction on Lake-Cook Road would be feasible.

"This agreement is to study the problem and look at potential options for solutions," Trustee Jeff Berman said. "The village is not giving its blessing to any concept, any proposed modification or improvement."

Cook County had originally brought this proposal last year, and the board discussed the idea in a finance committee meeting earlier this year.

The village board Monday agreed unanimously to a reimbursement agreement with Cook County on the project.
