InterContinental lands in Rosemont

A new luxury hotel has checked into Rosemont, the second to open in the last month in the suburb near O'Hare International Airport.

InterContinental Chicago O'Hare has opened at 5300 N. River Road, joining the recently opened Aloft Chicago O'Hare hotel at 9700 Balmoral Ave. InterContinental, which features 556 guest rooms, steps up the village's luxury hotel offerings, while Aloft brings a fun atmosphere.

Rosemont acting Mayor Bradley Stephens welcomed the InterContinental Monday at an opening ceremony. He said he's happy to have the upscale hotel.

"It adds a different dimension to the market," Stephens said.

InterContinental also features a theater, the restaurants Osteria di Tramonto, McCormick & Schmick's and The Capital Grille, and an art gallery.

The gallery is managed by full-time curator Editions Limited, and displays a rotating collection of commissioned artwork from well-known local and international artists. Daily Champagne site tours of the 12-story hotel and its original paintings and sculptures are available.

With Aloft's recent opening, Stephens is enthusiastic about adding to Rosemont's 6,000-plus hotel rooms already in town. Part of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts family which includes the Westin O'Hare in Rosemont, the 251-room Aloft features a loft-inspired design and a contemporary bar.
