Harrington voted into Elgin Sports Hall of Fame

Voting members of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Foundation Monday night overwhelmingly selected Sean Harrington for induction into the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame for 2008 as a result of his outstanding basketball career at Elgin High School and the University of Illinois.

The voters also chose Ralph "Gus" Vaughan as an all-around athlete at Elgin High and Carthage College, with emphasis on his achievements as a softball player.

In addition, Chris Sigourney was selected for his accomplishments in baseball and football at Larkin High and playing on the University of Illinois football team for four years, including the 1983 Rose Bowl team.

Katy Carter Potts will be inducted for her outstanding softball career at Larkin High and DePaul University, and Ella Mae Williams Roessler for her distinguished career in golf.

Other candidates receiving significant support and consideration in this year's election were Gary Bohlin (Oregon State - rowing), Blaine Royer (Larkin High and Illinois State - basketball), Julie Kovacs Fisher (Larkin High - volleyball), Dave Russell (Elgin High - wrestling), and Dick Stephens (Elgin High - football coach).
