Put political blogs in proper context
The Daily Herald's editorial dealing with the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain's Republican vice presidential running mate was a balanced piece of opinion. However, in the second to last paragraph reference was made to the blogosphere postings debating whether Gov. Palin was a good or bad mother for delivering a child who had Down syndrome and went back to work a few days later.
Is this not a matter of a woman's right to choose? The Daily Herald would have done its readership a great service by identifying which positions were being taken by the bloggers. If bloggers with a feminist leaning were chastising Gov. Palin for her decision was it based more on her returning to work so soon after delivery or was it for having a Down syndrome child instead of aborting it? Either argument refutes the abortion right advocates' foundation of a woman's right to choose.
If the negative opinions were voiced by the right to life advocacy it shows a doctrinaire stridency that does nothing to advance the debate on a woman's right to choice vs the moral standing of society as a whole and the need to protect the innocent.
