Grayslake Library renovates walkway

Beginning today, Sept. 8, the Grayslake Area Public Library's front walkway will be closed for renovations. The library will be open and accessible on the north side near the drive-up book drops, which will be closed to all vehicles. The front entrance should be open again by Wednesday, Sept. 17. The library is at 100 Library Lane, Grayslake.

In 1995 the Friends of the Library began selling engraved bricks that were placed in the walkway, but now some of the bricks are crumbling and wearing away. The engraved bricks will be replaced with replicas and displayed inside the library. A dedication of the display will be held during National Library Week, April 12-18, 2009. Bricks that are still intact will be offered back to the purchasers.

The Friends are reopening sales of memorial bricks to the public. Forms for purchasing new bricks are available at the Circulation Desk. The ordering deadline is Jan. 31, 2009. For information, call Roberta Thomas at (847) 223-5313.
