Sale to benefit needy families
House of Hope Resale shop in downtown Barrington will host its Fall Frenzy Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 10-13, to benefit Northwest suburban families in crisis. Proceeds from the sale - in which everything in the shop is half off - benefit Project Hope, a ministry that's run by St. Anne Catholic Church and which since 1986 has provided emergency assistance to area families in need. Merchandise includes furniture, clothing, toys, collectibles and housewares. This is the first Fall Frenzy sale held since the resale shop was recently expanded. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and the shop is located at 200 N. Hough Street, north of Main Street. For details, call (847) 756-4673.
Historic buildings wanted
The Bartlett Historical Society invites local building owners to submit their properties for consideration to receive a historic plaque. Any commercial or private building, home or barn will be considered if it's at least 50 years old with architectural details and additions faithful to the original, and has been maintained in good condition. The society will choose six structures to honor with the plaques in 2009. To enter, send the address and a brief description with the known information on the building's history, such as its age, builder and architectural style, and list any available historic documents on the property such as blueprints or photos. To submit a building or get more information, contant Carol Ann Kunkel at (630) 289-8592 or carolbartletthissoc@comcast.net. Typed entries can be mailed to the society at P.O. Box 8257, Bartlett, IL 60103. Earlier this year, the historical society reestablished the tradition of denoting historic structures with homemade plaques. The plaques are merely honorary and don't restrict property owners from making future changes.
