Mitsubishi, UAW end contract talks for weekend

NORMAL -- Talks between Mitsubishi Motors in Normal and the local United Auto Workers union are over for the weekend.

Mitsubishi Motors North America spokesman Dan Irvin said Saturday night that negotiations had endedn, the company will continue to operate and employees were expected to report for work.

Negotiations stretched into the early hours Saturday and were reconvened Saturday afternoon. The contract between the United Auto Workers Local 2488 and Mitsubishi expired Friday and members rejected the current offer.

A phone recording at the union's Bloomington office Saturday said, "Workers are to report to work as regularly scheduled."

Mitsubishi employs more than 1,000 union workers in Normal. Four Mitsubishi models are produced at the Normal plant.
