Campton Hills festival offers family fun

Touch Campton Hills' agricultural past, when you pet a goat today, Saturday, Sept. 7 at the second annual Campton Hills Heritage Farm Fest.

Or taste it, at the all-day corn boil.

Agricultural, civic, business and farm exhibits, plus a farmers market and live entertainment, are planned for the party, which is at the Campton Crossing Shopping Center, on the southeast corner of Route 64 and La Fox Road.

There will be a petting zoo, with ducks, chickens, goats, sheep and other animals that could be found on a farm.

"Normally, a lot of kids in urban areas don't get to interact with them," said Village Clerk William Beith. That and displays by Garfield Farm Museum, a beekeeper, a 4-H club and the Kane County Farm Bureau should remind people "to not lose sight" of central Kane County's agricultural roots, he said.

But it won't be all about farming. Beith said he is looking forward to a demonstration of Italian Renaissance sword fighting, sponsored by a martial arts academy and a fitness center.

And three local bands will play, including the Fam Jam Band, a group of parents and kids that got to know each other while attending music and band lessons.

He hopes the festival helps residents get to know each other a little better, too, comparing it to saying "hi" when you see people on a walk around the neighborhood.

"This is the village's front porch," he said of the shopping center which hold both the police department and village hall.

The event begins with the weekly farmers market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and lasts until dusk.

The party is organized by the Village of Campton Hills.
