Briefs: Police report big results
A Labor Day weekend police crackdown that especially targeted motorcyclists produced 107 arrests and 58 warnings, Illinois State Police Region 1 in Des Plaines reported. In one incident, two sport motorcycles were spotted traveling northbound on Ill. 53 and then onto eastbound Int. 90 at 130 miles per hour. Their were arrested and their bikes were towed. Another 15 persons were cited for driving on suspended licenses and four were arrested for criminal offenses. Cook County, Elk Grove Village and Chicago participated in the effort, which focused on the area around Busse Woods.
Police say tool robber caught
A St. Charles man was charged with felony burglary after police said he stole about $2,000 in construction tools in Bartlett. Tomasz Opalka, 30, of 6N759 Goodrich Ave., is accused of taking the tools from two trucks parked in front of the 1200 block of Humbracht Circle in the Brewster Creek Business Center. The locks on both trucks had been cut. Police said Opalka was found driving in the business park late Wednesday, just before the trucks were found, and that Opalka stole the tools with plans to pawn them. He was transported to DuPage County Jail.
Police check point tonight
The Arlington Heights Police Department will conduct a roadside checkpoint from 9 p.m. tonight to 1 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, on South Arlington Heights Road. Police will be looking for drivers under the influence, vehicles with defective equipment and licensing and insurance violations. During the check officers will slow traffic and stop cars at predetermined intervals.
