A must-see for fans of historic houses

Eight homes in northeast Elgin - which features two historic districts - will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday for the Historic Elgin House Tour.

The variety of styles reflects the architectural diversity found in this city. This year's homes include prairie style, colonial revival, Queen Ann and even Gothic revival.

This tile is a detail from a fireplace in one of the homes.

The tour is sponsored by the Gifford Park Association, which uses the proceeds for beautification in the area.

Tickets can be purchased for $20 the day of the event from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Sherman Hospital lobby, 934 Center St. They are less expensive in advance, with information at www.gifford-park-assoc.org.
