Barrington area united against CN

Thank you Barrington areas residents for once again exceeding expectations by turning out in record numbers to a recent public hearing hosted by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board.

More than 5,100 homeowners, business owners, Realtors and others dedicated to preserving the safety, economic stability and environmental integrity of our community made it clear to the STB that Canadian National's plans to acquire the EJ&E cannot move forward as presented.

The teamwork, determination and passion that were so prevalent are a glowing reminder of why our communities are so great.

Because of your involvement, we have made great strides and continue to be the leader in this fight, but there is still much to do.

We strongly encourage everyone to submit comments regarding the DEIS by Sept. 30. (http://www.stb.dot.gov, by clicking on the "E-FILING" link).

The STB is in the process of hosting public meetings throughout impacted areas and will then compile and take into consideration all written and oral comments before making a final determination.

It is our united front that has brought us this far. Be assured that we have taken this fight to Congress in supporting current legislation (HR 6707) that more clearly requires the STB to consider environmental impacts and reinforces its ability to include mitigation or turn down a transaction.

Let's continue to show Congress and the STB how important this issue is to us by presenting comments by Sept. 30th and encouraging family and friends across the county to support HR 6707.
