Driver dies after hitting house in McHenry Co.

A Ford Econoline van severely damaged a house in Riley Township in McHenry County at 3:31 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the van, 54-year-old Johnny R. Matthews of Marengo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's police say he was driving the van south on Route 23 when it crossed into the northbound lanes, then into a ditch, before hitting a corner of the house.

No one was home at the time.

County building officials determined the home was uninhabitable.
