Waukegan man denies dragging ex-wife, child with car

A Waukegan man accused of dragging his ex-wife and child with his car in a Gurnee parking lot pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

David Farris, 33, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of aggravated battery.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said Farris met with his ex-wife in the Gurnee Mills parking lot about 8:30 p.m. July 7 to exchange custody of their 2-year-old son.

The adults began arguing about the child safety seat in Farris' car, Foy said, and the woman reached into the car to remove the boy.

Farris then stepped on the accelerator and dragged the woman and boy a few feet, Foy said.

Both suffered mild abrasions but did not require medical treatment, Foy said.

Farris was arrested at the scene and is due to appear in court Sept. 10.
