Briefs: Buffalo Grove gives awards

The Buffalo Grove Days committee gave the "most original" float award to the Buffalo Grove Park District for its entry in this year's Buffalo Grove Days parade on Sunday. The group built a '57 Chevy out of plywood, and the walkers around the float were dressed in pink and black poodle skirts and other '50s attire. The youth award was given to the Algonquin Longhouse Indian Guides and Princesses, who created a campfire and totem pole and wore headdresses. The marching band award was given to Stevenson High School, and the president's award went to Cub Scout Pack 381. The latter float included a large barrel that represented a root beer mug and a handle made from a swimming noodle. The Vernon Area Library snagged the civic award with a Happy Birthday Buffalo Grove float, marking the town's 50th anniversary. The commercial award went to Edward Jones, whose float included a piggy bank and birthday cake made out of carnations.

Woman seeks cat's owner:

A Mount Prospect woman is seeking the owners of a 12-year-old cat left behind when some neighbors moved last week from Bunting Lane. Judi DiPillo said she believes the cat, named Buddy, is wanted by at least one of the family members, but she has no way to contact her. DiPillo took in the cat for now, but needs to find another home for it before Friday, when she will become unavailable to care for it because of health reasons. Attempts to get the cat into foster care this week have proven unsuccessful so far, DiPillo said. If you know how DiPillo can reach the owner of the cat, call her at (224) 558-7519.
