Dominick's to consider options
OAK BROOK - Dominick's Finer Foods, a unit of Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway Inc., declined Wednesday to verify published reports that it plans to lease space to other retailers inside some of its grocery stores in Chicago and the suburbs. A Dominick's spokeswoman said the chain is "exploring opportunity because we have a lot of valuable properties and have learned to run these stores more efficiently." Stores that are around 80,000 square feet are too big for the redesigned lifestyle stores, so the company may decide in the next few months what will happen to that unused space.
