Something old and something new
Just when voters thought we had a clear choice between the new (Sen. Obama) and the old (Sen. McCain), the candidates announced their respective choices for vice president.
Obama chose a veteran Washington insider (the old) and McCain countered with the heretofore little-known governor of Alaska (the new).
Perhaps some clarity could be restored to this situation with a baseball-style blockbuster trade: Obama could trade Joe Biden to McCain for Sarah Palin and a Supreme Court justice to be named later.
