Elgin police nab final suspects linked to home invasion
Elgin police have arrested the remaining men they have been looking for in connection with a home invasion in which four residents, including three children, were tied up and robbed at gunpoint.
Christian J. Lopez-Bonilla, 19, of 119 Tennyson Court, Elgin, and Leville Starks, 32, of 100 Bounty Drive, Poplar Grove, faces charges of home invasion and armed robbery, according to a news release.
The felonies carry a prison sentence of between six and 30 years upon conviction.
Bond has been set at $20,000 for each man.
Police say Lopez-Bonilla and Starks are two of the six men involved in the Aug. 22 home invasion in the 3600 block of Old Bridge Lane.
The six men, one armed with a gun, broke into the house at around 11:10 p.m. on that day and used duct tape to bind a 63-year-old woman and three children, aged 8, 6 and 5, according to police.
While a 44-year-old man tried to fight the men off with a baseball bat, he was beaten and pistol whipped, resulting in a six-inch cut on top of his head, police said.
All six men are in custody.
Last week, police arrested and charged three suspects. A sixth man is being held on unrelated charges, according to a news release. Officials are investigating whether to charge this person in the home invasion as well.
