Train for emergencies:

The Elgin Police Department will hold a Community Emergency Response Team class beginning Sept. 8 and running through Sept. 25 at the police station, 151 Douglas Ave. Classes go from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 8, 11, 15, 18, 22 and 25. Fresh produce in Algonquin:

Thursdays in Algonquin mean it's time for fresh fruit and vegetables. The Downtown Algonquin Partnership Merchant's Association is holding its annual farmers market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays through Oct. 2 in the parking lot on South Harrison Street, in the village's Old Town district. Want to know the status of the new county jail and sheriff's office? Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez will present an update at the Dundee Township Democratic Party monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at the West Dundee Public Safety Center II at the corner of Sleepy Hollow Road and Route 72. James Rhodes of the Chicago Single-Payer Action Network will also discuss health care for the single-payer. The meeting is open to the public.
