Carpentersville warns of siren test

Carpentersville officials remind residents that the village's emergency management warning sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month. During the testing, the siren will sound for about one to two minutes, compared to an actual emergency when the siren sounds until the danger has passed. Food drive in Elgin

The United Way of Elgin will hold a community food drive for its 14th annual Day of Caring. Donations throughout August and early September will be accepted at the United Way office at 2022 Larkin Ave. or any city fire station. The items will be taken to local food pantries on Sept. 5. Judson moves up in college ranks

Judson University earned a berth in the top tier of colleges in the U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges Survey. Among higher education institutions in the Midwest, Judson is ranked 18th as one of the best baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest, up from 21 in last year's survey. The Elgin university was also listed among five Midwest schools where graduates have the least amount of debt upon graduation. On average, Judson graduates accrue $12,664 in debt.
